WVA Chapter 20 requests your presence at the

2010 National Women Veterans of America Convention

“Women Veterans of America: Coming Together; Becoming Stronger”

The convention will be held on September 10th, 11th, and 12th in

Nashville, Tennessee at the Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown.

WVA is an advocate for all women veterans and for women currently serving in the military.  We provide information and support to women veterans, our members serve on Women Veteran’s Advisory Committees, and we have become involved in local and national issues pertaining to all women veterans.

PLEASE NOTE SPEAKER CHANGE:

The Keynote Speaker for our convention was scheduled to be Dr. Patricia M. Hayes, Chief Consultant,

Women Veterans Health Strategic Health Care Group, Department of Veterans Affairs.

However, due to time and travel constraints, Dr. Hayes has

asked MaryAnn Woodward-Smith, her Deputy Field Director

for Area 3, to appear in her place and give the presentation

on the current state of women veterans healthcare

programs within the VA on a national level.

The Women Veterans Strategic Health Care Group is working to expand initiatives for women veterans' health

care into a broad range of areas of importance, including cardiac health, reproductive health, and birth defect

prevention, as well as fully evaluating the care being provided to increasing numbers of women veterans.  This is an

incredible opportunity for women veterans to hear directly from the department that shapes VA policies on

healthcare for women veterans.

Even though the convention is for WVA members, because of the uniqueness

of this presentation, WVA is opening the morning session to ALL women

veterans, regardless of WVA membership.  If you wish to attend the

presentation, there is NO CHARGE and no registration is required.

Guests will be excused after the presentation so that the business

portion of the convention can begin.  Lunch WILL NOT be available to

those non-WVA members who are attending the presentation only.

Convention registration fees are $40 with the registration deadline of

10 August 2010.  This fee includes the presentation by Woodward-Smith,

the buffet luncheon, the Saturday afternoon business

meeting, and Sunday’s business meeting and Memorial Service.

Remember, the convention registration deadline is AUGUST 10th, 2010.

For our planning purposes, absolutely no registrations will be accepted after

this date.  If you will need any special assistance while at the convention,

please contact us right away so that we can make arrangements in advance.

This includes any special dietary restrictions.

Chapter 20 has planned a busy, but fun-filled convention weekend.

There will be plenty of business to conduct, but there will also be plenty

of time to see old friends and meet new ones as well.

We expect most travelers to arrive sometime Friday, and there will be a

hospitality room open from 3pm – 8pm with coffee, soft drinks, and very light snacks.  The registration table will be open during this time as well.  We hope that as veterans arrive, they will stop in and visit prior to heading out for the evening,

be it for dinner or other activities.  Registration will open at 7am on Saturday,

with the schedule of events to begin promptly at 8am.  Saturday’s buffet

lunch is included in the cost of registration.

Saturday’s business activities should conclude early enough so that visitors

can attend that night’s show at the Grand Ole Opry, or have plenty of time

to enjoy other attractions in and around Nashville.  These activities will be on

your own, but information will be provided about tickets and transportation.

Our convention venue, the Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown Nashville, is just across the street from Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame and is just a short walk from some of the best venues in the city.

Sunday’s convention activities will conclude by mid-day for ease of travel, or for spending the afternoon enjoying more local sights and sounds.
